Growing the good for NZ
Joylab sustainable tale of joy

Over 15 years, we’ve learned that strong businesses are grown through good people. That’s why we take bloody good care of them, and the piece of earth they walk on.

For us, taking care of NZ is a way of life that shows up every day:

- We make an honest, hand-on-heart promise to our people to provide a safe, fair, healthy, inclusive, and equal workplace

- We’re trained to be proactive, responsible hosts who are committed to making sure everyone gets home safe, every day - including our customers

- Wherever possible, we do the right thing by New Zealand in our business decisions - after all, it’s our own backyard we’re working in.

So, it’s something we’ve worked hard on for a good stint - how does it show up?

Reduce, reuse, recycle

  • Joylab was the first major hospitality group in New Zealand to remove single-use plastic straws back in January 2018. Choice.

Growing the good

  • Our safety practices would impress mum. We can report any hazard or incident immediately through our reporting app, and we send our board members to all establishments for a periodic check-in to make sure things are ship-shape.
  • Similarly, we keep safety knowledge on ice with our monthly ‘Chiller Chats’, which provide a workshop for each establishment to discuss safety and risk mitigation.
  • We couldn’t be here without the people who make up our dynamic communities. That’s why we drive annual fundraising for some of our favourite charitable organisations. To date, we’ve raised $200,000 for Big Buddy, $150,000 for St. John’s, and $180,000 for Race4Life.
  • We drive essential, tangible donations for other community-builders. Gifts, toys, food, cans, and more are collected for Auckland City Mission and the SPCA. We also donate $1 to KidzFirst for every kids meal sold at Garrison Public House.

Responsible refreshments

  • All of our establishment hosts are trained and licenced to run the show, with the added touch of making sure everyone is enjoying themselves responsibly and safely.
  • We also advocate for responsible consumption in our menus and promotions, including NZ’s first exclusive trial of Heineken 0.0% on tap, our Don’t be this Year’s Party Asshole menus, and the Battle of Cocktail Clones promotion.

All in, our industry leadership in sustainability and host responsibility has gone a long way in helping our communities, our country, and our people. From here, we only hope to improve and enhance our part in it all - we plan to be here for a while, and we want to make sure everyone else is too.
